Nothing compares to the smell of coffee in the morning, especially one made in a percolator. This traditional Italian coffee making method works as well today as ever. Better still, it’s super easy and you won’t have to wait too long for your coffee either.

In fact, within 1 minute, you get one cup of coffee, and if you’re brewing for the whole family, your percolator will deliver 5 cups in 5 minutes. Not bad, I’d say.

While traditional Italian percolators sit on the stove, with you using that heat to make your coffee, the percolator we’re going to review here is a little different.

The Farberware 2-4-Cup Percolator comes with a cord and plug, so you can place it on your worktop or even your kitchen table. Here, the pot features a heating element, so you can place it anywhere to make coffee.

Farberware 2-4 Cup Percolator Review

Farberware 2-4-Cup Percolator, Stainless Steel, FCP240

Faberware percolators have been around for a long time, with different sizes available to suit your needs. This one is on the small side, just big enough to make 2-4 cups.

The percolation method is the same as with traditional stove-top models. To make coffee, you fill the bottom part of the percolator with water and the basket with freshly ground coffee. The heat and resulting pressure force the hot water through the tiny holes in the coffee basket and into the upper part of the percolator. Within minutes all the water will have traveled from the bottom to the top which now contains delicious freshly brewed coffee.

Who Is This Product For?

Percolators are perfect for coffee lovers who like the old-fashioned way of making coffee. Besides, percolators are available at prices far below those of today’s fancy coffee machine. Still, the coffee is just as good.

So, if you like great homemade coffee but don’t want to spend a fortune, the Faberware percolator might just be right for you. This is even more true if you want to use a percolator away from a home stove, let’s say at the office.

As this model comes with a cord and plug, you can make coffee anywhere as long as you have access to a power point.

What Is Included?

On delivery, you receive the following:

  • Coffee Pot
  • Cord
  • Pump tube
  • Coffee basket
  • Lid
  • Instruction Manual

All metal parts are made of durable stainless steel, while the cool-touch lid knob and percolator handle allow you to avoid any type of scalding.

Overview of Features

There’s nothing fancy about this percolator other than the heating element and power cord. Still, if all you want is great coffee, this model delivers just that.

Using it is simple. Follow the traditional percolator steps to quickly brew a delicious fresh cup of coffee.

As the metal parts are made from stainless steel, durability won’t be an issue. Another advantage is that the different parts, i.e. the pot, basket, tube, and lid can be cleaned separately which makes it a whole lot easier to maintain.

Obviously, you need to take care of the electrical connections during the cleaning process to avoid water coming into contact with the electrics.

Stability is no issue either as the pot is shaped to sit sturdily on any firm, flat surface.

Another bonus is the warming feature which allows you to keep your coffee warm after making it. As the temperature is moderate, the taste is maintained and still, your coffee is kept warm.

How to Use It

You use this percolator like any other. Fill the body with water and the basket with freshly ground coffee. Place the tube inside the pot with the basket sitting on it. Put the lid on and plug in. Within minutes, you’ve got 2-4 cups of wonderful coffee, depending on the amount of water you put in.

During our research, we came across this little gem of a video. Let’s just say it will show you how not to use a percolator.

Alternatives

Perhaps you are a real traditionalist and prefer the old Italian-style percolator that doesn’t come with a cord but sits on the stove instead. In that case, we recommend the Alpha Coffee 6-Cup Stovetop Espresso Maker. It’s simple, beautiful, and designed like the old-fashioned Italian percolators. What’s more, it’s even less expensive than the Faberware percolator reviewed here.

Another advantage of this percolator is that it doesn’t feature any plastic parts like the Faberware. Some people do not like the slight “plastic smell” you may notice when using the Faberware.

Conclusions

No doubt, this is a great little plug-in, stand-alone percolator that delivers beautiful coffee quickly and effortlessly. Nonetheless, if you’re a real coffee geek, you may prefer a stove-top percolator like the Alpha.

Either way, you’ll be able to make a cup of great coffee, Italian style, within minutes without ever having to spend a fortune.

One would have to emphasize that percolators, in general, can stand up to the very sophisticated and pricey coffee machines when it comes to taste and ease of use.
